Eyebrows are one of the most prominent, and therefore one of the most important, features of your face. As such, choosing how to shape them is not a decision to be taken lightly. But with all the options salons have to offer—waxing, threading, sugaring—it can be difficult to know which method is right for you. Eyebrow threading is a technique that is quickly gaining popularity, but many people find themselves unaware of the process and its benefits. Let’s break down the practice of eyebrow threading, and further look at some of the benefits so you can make the right decision for your beloved eyebrows.

            What is eyebrow threading?

This method actually originates from ancient Eastern culture, and has only recently begun to gain popularity in the Western world. It involves using thin strands of cotton thread to trap strands of unwanted hair and pull them out of the skin, somewhat similar to tweezing.

            How does threading work?

Your beauty technician will wrap two entwined strands of cotton thread between their fingers, and then proceed to trap unwanted hairs between the threads and promptly remove them. The hairs are pulled up straight out of the follicle as your technician demonstrates an expertly practiced scissoring movement with the threads. Unlike waxing, the process proves to be quick and fluid, which means there’s less time to dwell on any pain!

What are the effects on my skin?

One of the benefits of threading is that there is little-to-no contact with the skin, which means there is less chance of skin irritation from inflammation or waxing burns. Further, threading does not use any wax or cream agents, which means there are no potentially harsh chemicals involved in the process. This is especially beneficial for those who have extremely sensitive skin, as there is less chance of skin irritation, breaking, and rashes compared to waxing and other methods.

            What are some other benefits?

In addition to its benefits for the skin, threading also proves to be beneficial for its time management. The process is notably quicker than other waxing methods because there is no need to allow wax or cream to set/harden. Your beauty technician will simply trap an entire line of unwanted hairs at once and remove them in one fluid motion before moving on to the next, making it much more effective than tweezing as well. After the threading process has finished your unwanted hairs will stay away for 3-4 weeks, and with all the extra time you can focus on trying other new beauty methods!

How do I know threading is right for my eyebrows?

It all comes down to preference. If you have sensitive skin, a fear of chemicals, and a low pain tolerance, then threading is the best option for you. Also, if you prefer a higher-arched brow, then threading would provide the best results. Waxing has its own pros and cons, which is why it’s important to weigh out your options before deciding which method to go with. Don’t be afraid to give eyebrow threading a chance!
